Joe

Synopsis: In this final issue of G.I. Joe: Saturday Morning Adventures. After meddling with forces beyond his control, Cobra Commander’s wishes blow up in his face—and the Aladdin Initiative ends in a way he could never have predicted! And now every G.I. Joe and all enemy Cobra forces face off on Cobra Island in a battle that could determine the final outcome of their ongoing war and the fate of the world!

The Story

Having brought every member of the G.I. Joes and Cobra to Cobra Island in the last issue. The Genie orders the two enemies to battle it out until there is a winning side. However, neither side wants to fight it out to their last soldier. To that end, Destro tells the G.I. Joes that the only way they can end the fighting is by stealing the magic Lamp from Cobra Islands temple. Tasked with this job are Quick Kick and Shipwreck. But it is not going to be as easy as just strolling into the temple.

The Artwork

As with the previous issues. Artist Dan Schoening continues to remain faithful to the look and feel of the classic 80s cartoon series. The panel where the Genie pretty much tells both the G.I. Joes and Cobra that they have to fight to their last person felt very much like a moment that could have been plucked from any number of episodes of the animated show.

I also quite enjoyed the panels where Quick Kick and Shipwreck try to gain entry into the Temple.

Overall

Erik Burnham concludes his story in true G.I. Joe Style. We even get a fun little twist at the end where Shipwreck takes full advantage of his third wish.

Overall. This mini-series has been a lot of fun and has brought back a few fond memories of watching the animated show.  It is definitely a book that I will pick up if IDW releases it as a trade paperback at some point.
