Missing Piece

Synopsis: In The Missing Piece. Brother Day embarks on a journey no other Cleon has ever attempted. Salvor prepares to make the ultimate sacrifice to return home.

The Story

Following up on events in last week’s show. Brother Day has agreed to walk the Spiral in order to put Zephyr Halima in her place. The Spiral is apparently a grueling pilgrimage that the Zephyr goes through in order to have a spiritual vision. It can often end in the death of the pilgrim.

Meanwhile on the fabled Invictus warship. Salvor sees her chance to break free of the Anacreons, but it’s a chance that could cost her her life.

Back on the Raven Gaal has realized that she has been feeling the future and talks it through with the spirit of Hari Seldon who has pretty much taken over the computer systems of The Raven. Hari reveals that he’d always planned to build a second Foundation, which did not have the oversight of Empire.  Upon learning this and not wanting to be used anymore by Hari Gaal asks that he let her go.

The Acting

Lee Pace puts in an epic performance as Brother Day who puts himself through the Spiral and has some bloody good scenes throughout the experience. The final scene he has, which sees him debriefing his experience with Demerzel is pretty telling of the lie that he has trapped himself in. Laura Birn also has a strong episode as Demerzel who is ordered to kill Halima even though Brother Day has defeated her. Her scenes with T’Nia Miller’s Halima are fantastic and rather compelling.

The Missing Piece is a brilliant episode for Brother Day as it illustrates how far he is prepared to go in order to try and retain the Cleon Empires grip on the outer worlds. The scenes of Brother Day walking alongside his fellow pilgrim do a lot to humanize his character as it is the first time that we have seen Brother Day in a truly vulnerable position.

Overall. Another solid episode for character development, but not really a massive amount in terms of action.
