THE TOWER AND THE STORM

Synopsis: THE TOWER AND THE STORM! With Captain Britain and Excalibur reunited, Otherworld is their domain. An escort mission reveals deep political unrest among Saturnyne’s court. And a brutal sacrifice bears fruit.

The Story

Picking the story up from the last issue. The UK has formally cut ties with Krakoa thanks to some manipulation from the Coven of Akkaba. This now means that the Excalibur team is now responsible for the well-being of all mutant kind. To that end, they are now charged with escorting mutants between the various gates of otherworld to keep them safe. However, when Merlyn shows up in Saturnynes Court and calls her out. Betsy, Gambit, and Jubilee head off to Merlyns Citidal to attempt a rescue mission. And all are questioning what side of things Merlyn is on. If indeed, this actually is the real Merlyn that they are dealing with.

Elsewhere, in order to help in the fight. A newly resurrected Pete Wisdom has resurrected ‘S.T.R.I.K.E. from the dead.

The Artwork

Marcus To continues to provide some great pages for this book. I loved the panels in which we see Merlyn call out Saturnyne. The artist does a great job of giving Merlyn a real presence in that room. Added to that we get a great sequence of panels where we see Betsy and her team free the Fae from Merlyn’s Citadel. But the best is saved to last when we see a massive 100-year-old train, which Richtor manages to find for the team to escape in.

Overall

THE TOWER AND THE STORM! pretty much delivers on the promise in that title. But with the addition of Merlyn to the story, we also get so much more besides as a certain former king of England is awaken from a centuries-old slumber and is only starting to remember who he was.

Overall. A great issue with some brilliant stuff being set up for future issues.
