OH NO, THERE GOES TOKYO — BUT HERE COMES ELVIRA!
TOKYO

Synopsis: OH NO, THERE GOES TOKYO — BUT HERE COMES ELVIRA! Vlad the Impaler’s rampage through the Multiverse of Movies has switched into high gear as he goes Cuckoo for Kaiju, recruiting the biggest and most dangerous of all cinematic creatures for his Monster Army. Can the Mistress of the Dark stop him in time — or will she have to go all Terror of Mecha-Elvira and Destroy All Monsters?

The Story

This month’s issue sees Elvira having to battle Kaiju, but not just any Kaiju. Kingzilla who is Dave Avallone’s comic book take on the popular Toho Monster Godzilla is at large once again with a host of other popular Toho Monsters. But how can Elvira stand up against such huge monsters? Thankfully, Agent Grant comes to the rescue with a Mecha-Elvira suit which will allow her to take on the Kaiju like the mech suits did in Pacific Rim. But it isn’t just the monsters that Elvira has to fight. She is also still trying to stay a step ahead of Vlad who has now formed an alliance with a race of aliens known as the Murderlarks.

The Artwork

Kewber Baal gets to have some fun in this issue as he gets to draw a number of the popular Toho monsters for this issue as they take on Elvira. Of course, the best panels are reserved for the closing few pages of the issue in which we see Elvira in her Mech Suit take on Kingzilla. The most comedic bit is seeing Elvira taken down by Baby Kingzilla. To end on. We get a fantastic ensemble drawing of Vlad and all of his various monsters, vampires, Frankensteins, and Werewolves as they prepare to conquer earth.

Overall

David Avallone continues to deliver fun and witty storylines with Elvira in Monsterland. When I started reading these books about two years ago when Avallone started doing the Elvira comics. I’d never have thought that we were going to see her go up against Kaiju and here we are.

I can’t wait to see what this writer cooks up next. Will the Kaiju start their conquest of Earth in Tokyo or will they launch their attack in Avallone’s backyard? I look forward to finding out.
