Synopsis: “THE POISON TRUTH” part 2! No one likes rejection-least of all John Constantine. But even if three’s a crowd, he’s going to find a way to get involved in Swamp Thing’s hunt for Abigail Arcane!
Review: The story picks up where issue one left off, but still leaves us with lots of questions.
Constantine sends his mate Chas on a mission to back a horse called ‘Boris Johnson’s Knob’. That line alone is worth the price of admission, but am pretty sure they missed the word ‘A’ out of that.
In this issue Constantine pays a visit to Clarice who is kind of a high up in London’s supernatural community. It seems that recent events even have Clarice scared, but she does manage to slip Constantine a clue via some old verses by William Blake.
We later learn that Clarice has had contact with one of the fallen angels from the last issue. He has an interest in Constantine for some unknown reason and has even had him followed by a couple of really strange looking characters.
Sadly we didn’t get to much Swamp Thing in this issue, but we do learn that in order for him to track down Abigail. He is likely going to have to go down to the rot.
This was another fun issue with some fun political bits and bobs of humour. Aside from ‘Boris Johnson’s Knob’. Maggie T and Norman Tebbit get quick references during Constantine’s fun banter with Clarice.
Give some of these references. It’s very obvious that Simon Oliver is very familiar with what is going on in the UK at the moment. I so look forward to seeing if any of his future issues will reference all of the Brexit stuff that is going on.
Moritat’s art in this issue was pretty awesome. I’m loving the way he is drawing the characters and I particularly enjoyed some of the facial expressions he was pulling off with the various characters.
I look forward to issue 3 with great excitement to see where else this mystery will lead.
