Story
Matt Murdock has been given a new lease on life as he looks after troubled kids in an orphanage, which is run by the church and paid for by a mysterious benefactor. However, even with a new purpose in his life. Matt is beginning to remember his old life as Daredevil and the road that led him down when fighting crime and fighting supernatural enemies in order to save the people that he loved. A path that led him to hell and back.
Filling in for him as Daredevil is Electra who finds herself in trouble when she is possessed by a demon of sorts who intends to use her as a means to get at Matt and temp him back into his old ways.
The Artwork
Aaron Kuder gives us some memorable panels in which we see a demon possess Electra and taunt Matt Murdock and try and tempt him into his old life. I loved the red color wash that was used during the panels where we see Matt Murdock’s disturbing dream. Furthermore, I liked how a similar color wash was used when Matt manages to exercise the demon from Electra towards the end of the book.
Overall
Saladin Ahmed proves to have a brilliant understanding of Catholicism and the guilt that is often associated with the Catholic religion. This is great because that is a huge aspect of Matt Murdock’s character. But I also loved how he has added a supernatural edge to it by having Matt not only confront his own personal demons but also confront some actual demons.
Overall. A great first issue that felt good as a jumping-on point for me.
