In Review: Conan the Barbarian #15

Synopsis: After leaving Cimmeria filled with wanderlust, a young Conan heads north in search of glory.

What he finds in that cold climate will change his outlook forever, setting him on the path that will make him a LEGEND.

The Story

Separated from his Vanir allies in the last issue. Conan battles on until he is the sole warrior wandering the icy landscape. Following with lustful interest is Atali the first-born daughter of the Frost Giant. As she sees the dark-haired warrior seem to weaken she stakes her claim and begins her game. However, Atali’s game gets cut short by her brothers who Conan slays. Was this just a dream or did our favorite Barbarian truly slay two Frost Giants? That is the question that his Vanir allies are asking when they catch up with him.

The Artwork

Doug Braithwaite and  Diego Rodriguez do a fantastic job of the artwork. The drawing of Atali is mesmerizing and you can’t really blame our Barbarian protagonist for falling for her. His Vanir friend describes her brilliantly when he says, “She walked among th’ dead, her body gleaming like ivory… Her hair unbearably bright in th’ moonlight.” And that is exactly how Braithwaite and Rodriguez manifest her onto the pages of this book. 

Overall

This latest story from Jim Zub continues to intrigue with its use of Norse Mythology. Its almost a shame that this run isn’t being done by Marvel because the use of he Frost Giants and so forth would be the perfect cross over opportunity for Conan to meet Thor. But would two such strong personalities be able to get along?

Overall. Another fantastic issue with a great mix of strong artwork and fantastic dialogue. I loved how much of a tease Atali becomes in her quest to try and conquer the Barbarian.
