Synopsis: In the depths of Eastern Europe, the legendary vampire hunter, Captain Kronos, and his two assistants, Grost and Carla, are called upon to help rid a town of its vampire plague. However, beneath the surface of the beleaguered town, a malevolent force far more evil and deadly is awakening and it might just be the match of Kronos…

Review: Titan Comics have been releasing a pretty fun run of books based on the classic Hammer films, and this latest release sees them providing a sequel to Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter.

This first issue sees Kronos, Grost, and Carla summoned to a town where they have to deal with an army of undead.

Dan Abnett does a pretty solid job of opening up this story with some nice and brief introduction to the three main protagonists of the book. For those that do not know there Hammar Horror history. Captain Kronos was one of the two films that co-starred 70’s pin-up Caroline Munro, who at the time was the first and only woman to be given a multi-film contract with the studio. It is nice to see that artist Tom Mandrake has managed to capture Caroline Munro’s likeness a little bit in his drawings of Carla, who was pretty much the kick-ass vampire slayer in a pre-Buffy age.

The story starts off with a Kronos and his team on a hunt for a Vampire, which they ultimately manage to get the better of before some militia from a nearby town asks for their help.

Abnett’s dialogue for the characters is pretty much bang on with how the characters spoke to each other in the movie on which this book is based.

Mandrake’s art is superb. You can tell that he is enjoying some of the gory aspects of the book as he provides us with a cool beheading on page eight.

This first issue lays the groundwork for what I am sure will be a fun story. I can’t wait for issue two.
