Synopsis: As Robin and Supergirl race to retrieve the secrets of the Devil Nezha from ancient China, Batman and Superman get more than they bargained for in the present! To save humanity from the fires of the demon, the World’s Finest must go toe-to-toe with the protector of Sector 2814…Hal Jordan.
Picking up from where the last issue left off. Superman and Batman have finally come face to face with Nezha but in order to get to him. They have to get by a magically enhanced Green Lantern first. Meanwhile, in the past. Supergirl and Robin learn that the only way that they can keep Nezha imprisoned is by sacrificing one of their own. As Supergirl and Robin travel back to the present they hit a time stream, which causes Supergirl to lose Robin.
Back in the present. Batman and Superman are in grim trouble.
Dan Mora produces some great work for this issue. I loved the confrontation with Nezha and how all of that played out. But the best moment for me is what we get to see when Batman and Superman combine their strength and use some magic of their own. The combination of both heroes provides for a great visual treat.
Once again Mark Waid delivers a story that reminds me why I got interested in comics in the first place. I loved the big villain’s speech that Nezha gives when explaining his plans. Sure it is a little bit of a cliche the villain talking us through his plans, but it’s a fun one that when done right can be really enjoyable. And trust me on this. In this book, it is done right.
So things are looking pretty grim for our heroes as Supergirl delivers some disturbing news. I can’t wait to find out what will happen in the next issue and learn who our heroes will have to sacrifice in order to defeat Nezha. I mean could there be a workaround such as making a superhero clone. You know pitting science against magic? I guess we’ll learn more in next month’s installment.
