Synopsis: Oliver, John, Laurel, and Tatsu seek out an important person within The Monitor’s plan. Connor has a heart to heart with his brother.

Review: It would seem that Oliver’s single-mindedness is something that The Monitor is counting on as part of his long game.

The Story

The Monitor sends Oliver on a mission to bring him a scientist who has redeveloped a deadly virus, which China White and her gang would kill for. Oliver and Diggle get help from Tatsu Yamashiro who questions Oliver with regards to these missions that he is doing for the Monitor.

In the future segment, Connor has a chat with the leader of the Deathstroke gang, which is planning to take over the whole of Star City. Connor is hoping that he can convince his brother to change his ways. But Mia is not convinced. Meanwhile, William uncovers the real plan, which the Deathstroke gang is putting into operation.

The Acting

Stephen Amell puts in an amazing performance this week by showing us the true emotional rollercoaster that Ollie is going through by being separated from his family in order to try and save them. The conversation he has with Tatsu, which leads to his questioning whether The Monitor is really working for the greater good is an awesome moment.

I also thought that Katie Cassidy gave a wonderful performance, which saw Laurel Lance having to deal with the rawness of her survivor’s guilt from her being the sole survivor from Earth 2. Her scenes with Layla were really well played out.

This was another really enjoyable episode, which saw the return of some great characters from the shows past seasons. I really enjoyed seeing China White again and the fight between her and Tatsu toward the close of the episode was fantastic.

I also quite enjoyed the fact that Oliver is beginning to suspect that The Monitor’s motives may not be as clear cut as he thinks they are. A fact, which is more or less confirmed when we see that the Monitor is also using Layla in his complex chess game.
