Synopsis: In part two of Season of the Witch, Diana faces off against a team assembled with only one mission in mind: to take down Wonder Woman at any cost. But after a strangely intimate betrayal, Diana finds herself outplayed, boxed in, and running out of options…
The Story
Picking up from where the last issue left off, Wonder Woman is attending a new exhibit celebrating the Greek Gods and Amazons at the Gateway City Museum. But the exhibit has been attacked by a new variant of the Suicide Squad, which is led by the witch Zatanna, who has somehow managed to prevent Diana from using her magic, but has really borrowed Diana’s magic for a moment so she can free herself of the parasite that Victoria Cale is using to control her.
Once free of this parasite, Zatanna flees the scene. However, the other members of the Suicide Squad, which include Cheetah, Dr. Poison, and Giganta, continue with their mission. Diana, who has regained her magic, sets about sorting the Suicide Squad out and making sure that the museum is clear of innocent bystanders.
She manages to contain Dr. Poison quite easily, but Giganta and Cheetah are a little more of an issue. While the fight hits the streets of Gateway City, Victoria Cale sends another witch to put an end to Wonder Woman.
Artwork
Hayden Sherman does a solid job on the art in this issue. A standout moment is the panel where Wonder Woman’s skeletal horse, Pegasus, smashes into the museum. But the absolute highlight, pun very much intended, is the two-page spread of a giant-sized Wonder Woman battling Giganta on the streets of Gateway City.
Overall
This second part of the new story arc adds a little more to the plot. I loved the moment where we see a ticked-off Victoria Cale having to look into sending another witch to go after Wonder Woman, given that Zatanna has escaped into the wind, meaning that Cale no longer has a hold on her. Hopefully, we’ll get to learn a little more about Cale in future issues.
