Synopsis: As Diana learns more about the “myth of the Amazons” from Barbara in Gateway City, a wave of violent supernatural events erupts across the globe. Drawn from one crisis to the next, Diana begins to notice a disturbing pattern. With Etta’s help, she races to uncover why these events are happening — and how to stop them. The truth she discovers is more personal than she could ever imagine.

The Story

Diana and Barbara are researching ancient myths about the Amazons in Gateway City, uncovering hidden lore about Diana’s origins and her mysterious connection to Circe. As they dig deeper, a series of supernatural attacks erupt across the world, each one more destructive than the last. The first strikes at a casino in Reno, Nevada, where Diana confronts a monstrous energy being that vanishes after their clash. The creature reappears in Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Hawaii, and finally Delphi, leaving devastation in its wake.

Diana’s allies — especially Etta — help her track the pattern, revealing that every location ties back to ancient Amazon battle sites. Battling exhaustion, frustration, and mounting supernatural forces, Diana struggles to stay ahead of the creature. In a tense moment, she questions whether the darkness she faces might be bound to her own power. By the book’s end, Diana confronts a chilling truth — that this force, this path of ruin, was born from her, and that the very magic she wields may exact a far more personal cost than she ever imagined.

Artwork

Matías Bergara delivers some solid artwork in this issue. I especially loved the quieter panels at the start, where Diana and her friend Barbara study ancient myths and artworks of the Amazons while searching for links to Diana’s past. The art depicting the various books and scrolls they pore over is beautifully detailed and immersive, drawing you into their research. The standout moment, though, comes on the final page — a stunning splash page of Diana confronting the energy creature, giving us our first real look at the mysterious being in all its power.

Overall

I really enjoyed this new arc and how it’s bringing more of Barbara, Etta, and Gia into the story. It feels like it’s setting them up to become Diana’s team of witches and experts on ancient societies and magic. I particularly loved the opening pages, where Diana confers with Barbara over various books and scrolls as they dig deeper into her origins.
