Synopsis: Wally West is plagued by two threats terrorizing Central City! This young speedster will need to learn how to be in two places at once if he’s going to save his newfound city and family!
The Story
Picking up from the last issue, Thawne has sent Hunter Zolomon on a mission to kill Wally West, aka the Flash. To keep everyone else distracted, she has also sent in Abra Kadabra, who uses his powers of illusion to sow confusion, focusing particularly on Wally’s friend Linda.
The Flash is losing his battle with Zolomon, whose ability to travel one minute into the past or future gives him the upper hand. Yet, for some reason, he has been unable to kill Wally.
Elsewhere, Grodd finds Linda and tells her that Abra Kadabra’s illusions are a lie. This frees her to chase Kadabra down and subdue him enough to stop him broadcasting his mass illusions. Grodd then uses his psychic abilities to get inside Zolomon’s head, distracting him just long enough for Wally to knock him out. It is only a brief respite, but it gives Wally enough time to escape and reunite with Grodd and Linda.
Artwork
Nick Robles continues to produce solid artwork on this book. The image of Wally’s father pleading with him for help makes for a truly dramatic opening, while the visible toll of Wally’s beating adds tension to the proceedings. My favourite panels, though, are those featuring Abra Kadabra taunting Linda. Robles saves his best work for the final couple of pages, but you’ll have to read the issue yourself to discover what awaits.
Overall
This is likely one of the strongest issues of the series to date. In my opinion, the series got off to a slightly slow start, but it has really found its momentum in recent months. Having the Flash under attack on two fronts in this issue also gives Grodd and Linda a chance to develop as characters. I loved how the issue closed and look forward to seeing how those final moments impact the next instalment.
