The Story
After having assisted Wonder Woman with a job in Absolute Wonder Woman, it is now time for Diana to return the favour. In the wake of Bane’s experiments and attempted takeover of Gotham, Bruce Wayne’s friends Oswald Cobblepot and Harvey Dent have wound up in the hospital, getting treatment for their disfigurement at the hands of Bane. When Bruce goes to see them, he isn’t exactly greeted with warmth, as the two friends push him away and blame his antics as The Batman for their fates.
But it is Waylon Jones who is the worst off of all Bruce’s friends, having been transformed into Killer Croc. In the hopes that her supernatural origins may be of help, Batman uses the token that Wonder Woman gave him to summon her. He asks Diana if there is anything from her realm that may help his friend Waylon. Diana has one idea, but it involves visiting the world between worlds, where he must battle Akrolis, a centaur, in order to win a talisman of transformation.
Artwork
Nick Dragotta produces some solid art in this issue. He makes an immediate impression with an impressive two-page splash of Batman riding his motorcycle. But it’s one of the quieter moments in the book that impresses the most. During the series of panels set in the Gotham Museum of Natural History, we get some nice images of various pieces of Greek myth and symbolism, and one of the panels on the right-hand side shows Batman’s cowl catching the harsh museum lighting. It’s really effective, and my favourite image from the book. Of course, I also have to mention the images toward the end of the issue, where we see Wonder Woman and Batman battling Akrolis the centaur.
