Synopsis: This month in 007: For King And Country, With another Double-O agent in hot pursuit, James Bond and Gwen Gann seek out an old ally to help them on their mission to take down Myrmidon. But Bond learns that even Gwen Gann may not be exactly what she claims to be…

The Story

Having met Gwendolyn’s old contact in Paris in the last issue. Bond and Gann find themselves pinned down by 006. While pinned down. Bond speaks briefly with 006 over the radio and gets a warning that Gwendolyn is not who she appears to be. Bond pretty much takes this information onboard but follows through with his escape plan regardless and manages to regroup with Gwendolyn. Meanwhile, at Myrmidon’s headquarters, Fromm and one of his scientists are observing the virus they created slowly take effect on one of their soldiers. When the soldier has to be shot. Fromm’s scientist urges him to cease the deal they are trying to make with the USA so they can get the kinks out of the virus.

Having escaped from 006. Bond makes plans to head to the USA in disguise as 006 so he can meet his old CIA friend Felix.

The Artwork

Giorgio Spalletta draws a fantastic car chase sequence as we see Bond and Gann get away from 006’s people. The way in which the artist draws this chase does a great job of suggesting that the vehicles are moving at frenetic speeds. I also loved the artwork that depicts Fromm and his scientist’s test subject deteriorating.

Overall

This was another solid issue with a couple of nice plot twists beginning to unfold. Phillip K. Johnson is obviously a fan of the Bond movies given how well he writes for his villain. The speech that Fromm makes to his scientist about his long-term plans for world domination was very much in the vein of your classic bond villains such as Ernst Stavro Blofeld and Hugo Drax.

Overall. I’m continuing to enjoy where this story is going and can’t wait for the next issue to come out.
