Hasraf ‘HaZ’ Dulull has been brought in to director a futuristic take on ‘Robin Hood’. The director has been brought in to help develop the project by Gianni Nunnari and his Hollywood Gang banner.
The story for this science fiction take on the legendary British outlaw has been penned by none other than Tony Lee. For those not aware Lee has penned comics for character as wide ranging as ‘Spider-Man’ to ‘Doctor Who’. The writer even did a brilliant take on ‘MacGyver’ a number of years back for Image Comics. He’s also done various different takes on ‘Robin Hood’ in the past as well.
According to Hollywood Reporter Nunnari, who produced the visually stylish 300 and Immortals, took to Dulull after being impressed with his shorts, including the sci-fi thriller Sync, among others.
“HaZ brings the grounded realistic approach to the world depicting technology and people in a not too distant dystopian London,” said Nunnari, underscoring that with both Lee and Dulull being London-based, all are keen on keeping the British heart alive (no matter what time period it’s in) of this decidedly English legend.
Hollywood Gang is eyeing a 2017 production start for ‘Robin Hood’.
This will not be the first time that the Classic British Outlaw has been re-imagined as a science fiction character. Back in the 1960s there was an animated series called ‘Rocket Robin Hood’, which was developed by Canadian animation company Krantz Films. That series ran from 1966 to 1969 and is still fondly remembered to this day.
While this new film is more of a feature version. It would not surprise me if parts of it are inspired by things like ‘Rocket Robin Hood’ and ‘Star Wars’, but for that we’ll just have to wait and see. Whatever happens I think it will be a heck of a lot of fun to watch if it is done right.
