Dynamite reveal creative team for ‘Shaft’ comic

Dynamite Entertainment has announced David F Walker and Bilquis Evely as the creative team on its Shaft comic

Dynamite has revealed that David F Walker and Bilquis Evely as the creative teal for their ‘Shaft’ comic book series.

Both film maker and Doc Savage Artist are to work on the blaxploitation property, reports The Spire.

Sanford Greene, Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz will be providing covers for the series.

“The series will be steeped in the world created by author Ernest Tidyman, author of the Shaft books,” writes Walker on his blog.

“It was with the help and the blessing of his widow, Chris Clark-Tidyman, that this project got off the ground.

“Dynamite has put a lot into this series, which debuts in December (just in time for my birthday). I’ll be posting more about it in the days, weeks, months, and hopefully, years to come.”

The role of ‘Shaft’ was originated by Richard Roundtree in the 1970 movie, but Samuel L. Jackson played the role of John Shaft nephew to the original character in the 2000 ‘Shaft’ movie, which garnered a mixed reaction from fans and movie goers alike.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Dynamite do a second comic book series based on the latter of the two Shafts at some future date.
