2018 is continuing to see the introduction of notable comic releases and the stories and the artwork seem to be just getting more impressive with each passing year. So the question is which ones are must-reads for summer 2018 though?
League of Extraordinary Gentleman: The Tempest
After a journey spanning 17 years through the entirety of human culture, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill are set to see the conclusion of their legendary comic book careers with the final installment of the League of Gentleman. The series’ fourth and final epic volume is set to be released this summer and is named The Tempest. It will be a 6 issue mini-series and will really highlight everything that has been loved about comics and what they could become in the future. It’s a story that starts in the headquarters of the British Military Intelligence, the African City of Kor and the doomed citadel of ‘We’ on earth in 2996.
X Men: Red
The latest X Men comic X Men: Red was released in February 2018 by Marvel Comics, written by Tom Taylor and drawn by Mahmud Asrar, with Travis Charest completing the covers. This comic follows the story in the wake of Jean Grey’s resurrection, seeing the revived heroine assemble a new team of X-Men to fight the evil who are threatening the legacy of the late Charles Xavier. These comic book superheroes have always proven to be a huge success and has often led to inspire other aspects of the entertainment industry like video games and even online slot games found at well known casino sites, PartyCasino being a perfect example.
Bloodborne
Titan Comics are famous for adapting popular video game franchises into wonderful graphic novels, like Tekken and Wolfenstein. Their latest creation is a comic based on the acclaimed PS4 game Bloodborne, written by Ales Kot and featuring artwork from Piotr Kowalski. Titan’s synopsis tells us of the story “Awakening in an ancient city plagued by a twisted epidemic, where horrified beasts stalk the shadows and the streets run slick with the blood of the damned, a nameless Hunter embarks on a dangerous quest in search of Paleblood”.
Ice Cream Man
Ice Cream Man was released in January by Image Comics, written by W.Maxwell Prince and the artwork provided by Martin Morazzo. It is a genre-defying graphic novel which features ‘one-shot’ tales of wonder, sorrow, and redemption. All installments possess their own unique, strange characters, who deal with a ‘sundae of suffering’. At the periphery of all the tales is the Ice Cream man, he is a weaver of stories and a purveyor of sweet treats. Is he a friend? A foe? God? A demon? This comic tells us the story of a little boy and his pet spider and what happens when his parents go missing.
New Mutants: Dead Souls
This new series is written by Matthew Rosenberg, with the artwork provided by Adan Gorham and really hits the ground running in this new version of the New Mutants team.
This comic follows the story of the aftermath of the hurricane that wreaks havoc on a small town in Alabama. The dead begin to rise from the destruction of the hurricane and start to attack who is left of the living. The Dead Souls are a corporate sponsored team who have the goal of dealing with supernatural emergencies and are dispatched to investigate what is going on.
