Gareth Thomas, who played the role of Roj Blake in the classic British series ‘Blake’s 7’ has passed away at the age of 71.
A message on the Blake’s 7 website announced that Thomas had succumbed to heart failure early on Wednesday (April 13).
“Our thoughts are with his wife Linda, and his family and friends,” the Blake’s 7 post concluded.
Thomas famously played resistance leader Roj Blake on the classic science fiction series.
The actors departure from ‘Blake’s 7’ in 1981 proved highly controversial due to the fact that the show was named after his character. In fact Thomas asked producers to give his character a grizzly death, but instead his character was just written out and brought back for a grizzly death a couple of years later.
‘Blake’s 7’ along with Classic ‘Doctor Who’ represented what was a golden age in science fiction television at the BBC.
The series, which featured the the resistances struggle with the terran federation is still well regarded to this day and has had a successful run with Big Finish audio in which Thomas has been able to reprise his role a few times.
Gareth Thomas’s long and impressive resume includes roles in such well regarded series as ‘Torchwood’ and ‘Coronation Street’ to name only two.
We here at scifipulse.net would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gareth Thomas in this difficult time.
