William Shatner could reprise the role of Captain Kirk in the new ‘Star Trek’ sequel, which would be the third film in the rebooted universe.
The script for the latest instalment in the science fiction saga, from Roberto Orci, JD Payne and Patrick McKay, reportedly features a part for the character Shatner originated in the ’60s TV series.
According to Badass Digest, the storyline will include an on-screen meeting between Shatner’s Kirk and Leonard Nimoy’s Spock.
The scene is supposedly an integral part of the movies plot. Meaning that it may just survive future revisions of the movies script.
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy haven’t appeared in a ‘Star Trek’ movie together since ‘Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country,’ which was released back in 1991. Shatners final official appearance as James T. Kirk was in ‘Star Trek: Generations,’ which was an appearance that irked many fans due to how Kirks death was dealt with.
2009 ‘Star Trek’
movie, which rebooted the series with Chris Pine
as Kirk and Zachary Quinto
and Nimoy playing Spock across two timelines, originally featured a cameo for Shatner’s Kirk in the script that was removed in rewrites.
Star Trek franchise veteran Orci will make his directorial debut with the third movie, which is due for release in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s creation.
