As was recently reported by Deadline, The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead’s creator, Robert Kirkman, made the following announcement at this weekend’s New York Comic-Con Walking Dead panel, “There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name . . .”
Kirkman went on to indicate that this crossover between both of AMC’s zombie shows will take place sometime next year. So the question then on the minds of all of the legions of Dead fans to both of AMC’s sister-shows is, who will that character be?
Interestingly, next weekend will be Fear the Walking Dead’s season three finale, and The Walking Dead’s season eight will likewise be premiering at the end of this month. So these last episodes of Fear the Walking Dead may give the fans some clues as to which character will make the cross-country crossover to The Walking Dead.
Last night’s fourteenth episode of Fear the Walking Dead’s third season, began with the pending death of Ofelia, (Mercedes Mason), who was bitten at the end of last week’s episode.
But while fans lost a familiar and well liked character, they gained a very strong and dynamic pickaxe yielding female character, played by Edwina Findley. A somewhat Michonne-like character, with a rather bleak apocalypse-smart survivor’s mentality, telling her new found friend ‘Alicia’ (Alycia Debnam-Carey), “The problem ain’t the killing, it’s the friends. This is the life. You ain’t gonna find a way out. Not north, not south, not anywhere else.”
It seems that Alecia needs some well-deserved privacy, perhaps realizing that sometimes people may survive better on their own in the zombie apocalypse. Making it clear to her once again relapsed drug addict brother Nick (Frank Dillane), as she drove off into the cold Walking Dead universe all by herself.
Based on these clues alone, SciFi Pulse’s money as to who will make the crossover is indeed Alicia. This could be supported by an early season 8 teaser into another very big change coming to the Walking Dead World.
In the season 8 previews, there is a reference to an older and bearded Rick. This bearded Rick ties into Image’s Walking Dead comic universe, in which the entire WD series timeline jumps a year or so into the future, after the defeat of Negan and his post-apocalyptic band of ‘Saviors’.
The comic in question, is issue #127, which is titled ‘A new beginning’, would also potentially be were the ninth season begins. Incidentally, this issue also introduces a new strong female character into the comic series, looking surprisingly like Alicia, who had been traveling with a group from out West, on top of a trailer pulled by horses.
Clearly this is not definitive, with fans needing to keep their eyes open in the upcoming last episode of Fear the Walking Dead, for another clue as to just which character will be making the big Trek over to Rick and his people.
