Walking Dead Spin-off ‘Cobalt’ to begin production early 2015

The show might be a prequel to The Walking Dead and take place in Los Angeles

For those Walking Dead fans who may not know, the anticipated spin-off to Robert Kirkman’s hit AMC zombie apocalypse show, The Walking Dead, is called Cobalt. The new zombie series, which is also being developed Robert Kirkman, along with show runner Dave Erickson, and Adam Davidson as the director, is set to take place around the same time as The Walking Dead.

The rumors seem to suggest that the show might also be somewhat of a prequel to The Walking Dead, as well as taking place in a different section of the continental United States all together. Cobalt, which will begin filming in early 2015, will be set in the city of Los Angeles, which would also seem to correspond to reports over the last few weeks of related AMC casting activity in the Los Angeles area.

Not only does the new zombie spin-off have a title and location, but it seems as though some of the show’s key actors have already been cast, including the show’s main character named Sean Cabrera, as played by Cliff Curtis. Cabrera is said to be a divorced teacher forced to take a leadership role amongst a group of survivors, along with his rebellious teenage son named Cody, who has yet to be cast.

In addition, there seems to be at least two other kids in Cobalt’s main group named Nick and Ashley Tompkins, who have been recently cast by AMC. Nick doesn’t seem to know where life is taking him will be played by Frank Dillane, while Ashley who can’t grow up fast enough it seems, will be played by Alycia Debnam Carey.

So while three of the six main characters have been cast, it would appear that Cobalt’s producers are still looking for three actors to fill the following roles:

CODY CABRERA: Sean’s very smart and extremely rebellious teenage son.

NANCY TOMPKINS: A seemingly average single mother of two kids with an edge to her.

ANDREA CHAPMAN: A forty year old flower child still trying to deal with the aftermath of a failed marriage.

While the back story to Cobalt certainly sounds interesting and I am sure that the legions of ravenous Walking Dead fans are anxious to see what Robert Kirkman and the show’s producers have in store for them.
