‘The Walking Dead’ Star Talks On Her Sudden Exit

"I think the writing throughout has been great, but I wasn't ready for it to be over," she said. "I think the Beth character, in particular… more could've been done with a teenager growing up [in that world]."

Sunday’s mid season finale of ‘The Walking Dead’ delivered some shocks to viewers as would be expected, but one thing that many didn’t see coming was the sudden death of Beth who is played by Emily Kinney.

In the episode, which was titled ‘Coda’ Beth is killed by Dawn (Christine Woods) when a planned hostage exchange goes wrong.

In a recent interview for TV Line Kinney said that she wasn’t expecting her time on the hit series to be over.

“I think the writing throughout has been great, but I wasn’t ready for it to be over,” she said. “I think the Beth character, in particular… more could’ve been done with a teenager growing up [in that world].

“I did not see [her death] coming at all, especially this season. It’s weird, because I would’ve been okay with [this happening] in the second season or the third season… but now I feel differently… I feel like there was still so much more to [explore].”

The actress went on to add that she would have liked to have explored Beth and Daryl’s relationship a little more on the show.

“They never really told us what [their relationship] was supposed to be,” she explained. “I think it was a situation where they were getting to know each other.

“First, they were just trying to get along at all, because I don’t think that they saw each other’s point of view very well.

“And then as the story went along they maybe became friends, and I do think that it started to sort of go, ‘Oh, what more could this be? Could it keep going into something else?'”

The Walking Dead will return in February.
