‘Star Wars’ Star Daisy Ridley Being Considered For ‘Tomb Raider’ Lead

The Force could be strong with Lara Croft.

Daisy Ridley who impressed us all with her portrayal of the heroic Rey in last years ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ could well be in the running for the role of Lara Croft in the pending ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot.

According to Deadline the British actress is being considered for the role, but no official negotiations or offers have been made as yet.

If true it would be the first feature film to have a British actress playing Lara. In the previous movies Angelina Jolie had to adopt an accent for the role.

For my money Ridley would be a good choice. She has certainly proved that she can handle action scenes and at the age of just 24 she’d also be good for several sequels should the new movies prove to be more successful than their predecessors.

Also in the running for the role is Emilia Clarke who is best known for ‘Game Of Thrones’. Which pretty much shows that Ridley is hitting the right buttons to be in the same circles as Clarke, who has been a fan favourite for a number of years for numerous genre projects.

The upcoming movie looks to be taking cues from the recent video games. Which means that the casting people will be looking to a 20 something actress that can play a little younger, which makes sense given that the recent games feature a less established Lara Croft than the one we met in the earlier games and movies.

Crystal Dynamics rebooted the game series a few years back to tell an origin story that heavily focused on Lara Croft’s character and how she transformed into a battle-hardened explorer.

“I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well,” director Roar Uthaug said. “I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character.”
