Smithsonian seeks fans help to restore Enterprise

The original Enterprise model has been modified no less than eight seperate times since 1964.

Last week a sub space message was sent out intended for all Star Trek fans,  from  the National Air and Space Museum, requesting photographic references of the U.S.S. Enterprise from before 1976.

The request comes as a result of the Smithsonian Institute attempting to restore the original model of the starship to its ‘on-air’ appearance in August 1967. It seems as though, the original Enterprise model was in fact modified eight separate times after its initial construction in 1964 and as such, the Smithsonian is asking the fans to please send photographs and any other pertinent reference materials to [email protected].

Here is the ‘Priority One’ press release sent out by he Smithsonian:

“The 11-foot-long studio model used in all 79 episodes is currently in the Emil Buehler Conservation Laboratory at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va. It will go on display in the museum’s Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall in 2016. The public can watch for updates on the museum’s social channels and join in the conversation by using #MilestonesofFlight.”
