‘Sherlock’ Christmas Special Trailer Comes Out Of The Shadows

The festive episode will premier at cinemas a little ahead of its television premier. The episode has no connection to the modern day series, but is a reimagining of the characters as a one off special set in the 1890's.

The BBC have released a fantastic trailer for the forthcoming Christmas Special, which takes the action back into to the 19th century.

Fulfilling every ‘Sherlock’ fan’s ultimate fantasy, this one-off adventure sees the Great Detective and Dr Watson on the case of a rather terrifying mystery in Victorian London.

The festive episode will premier at cinemas a little ahead of its television premier. The episode has no connection to the modern day series, but is a reimagining of the characters as a one off special set in the 1890’s.

Series co-creator Steven Moffat let slip earlier in the year that the decision to use a Victorian setting was based purely on his desire to see Holmes and Watson in their traditional era.

“We’ve got, I think you can safely say, the Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson of a generation – we want to see them do it in the proper outfits, just once,” Moffat said backstage at the House of Fraser BAFTA Television Awards in May.

“That makes them the only two who’ve done both [period and contemporary] – apart from [Basil] Rathbone and [Nigel] Bruce, who we venerate, of course.”

An exact transmission date for the festive episode is as yet to be confirmed, but Moffat hinted earlier in the year that Christmas Day maybe be to crowded for the special.
