Shatner and Orci set phasers to rumour control

Earlier today in response to these rumors both William Shatner and 'Star Trek 3' writer/director Roberto Orci had their say on the matter.

Yesterday a huge rumor broke out that said William Shatner would reprise the role of Kirk prime for the third of the modern ‘Star Trek’ movies.

As you can imagine the rumor sent the world wide web into a tail spin of fan chatter and speculation.

Earlier today in response to these rumors both William Shatner and ‘Star Trek 3’ writer/director Roberto Orci had their say on the matter.

Orci took to fansite TrekMovie to comment on the speculation, saying: “Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way.”

He continued: “Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theatre. Until then, everything is a rumour.”

For his part Shatner commented via his Twitter feed told his fans not to hold their breaths. Saying it was just rhetoric designed to get folk talking.

J.J. Abrams first ‘Star Trek’ movie, which starred Chris Pin as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock did originally feature a cameo from Shatner as kirk, but it was removed during the scripts re-writes.
