‘Supernatural’ is about to enter its 12th season and the recent panel held at San Diego over weekend revealed that the new season will see Rick Springfield taking on the role of Lucifer.
Springfield of course launched his career in the seventies with his music, but wound up becoming an actor as well. Over the years he has guest starred in many iconic series such as ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Battlestar Galactica’, but has also carved out a fairly decent career playing character roles in television and movies.
The panel revealed that Lucifer will embody several different human hosts in the coming season and Springfield is just one of them.
“You need a really strong vessel like Sam, like Castiel…” executive producer Robert Singer revealed during the show’s panel on Sunday.
“The first vessel that [Lucifer] feels comfortable with is a rock star who’s a little bit on the down side who’s trying to come back.”
The musician and singer has signed for a multi-episode arc, so we can expect Lucifer to quite like taking over a rocker’s body for at least a few episodes.
Hints were dropped during the panel in which it was suggested that we could be seeing a fair few characters show up from the shows past.
It seems to be that the two Winchester Brothers are doomed never to be able to die, but it looks like they are not alone in that because their mother Mary (Samantha Smith), who died before the series even began is making a return.
If that ain’t enough. The panel also revealed that we’ll get more episodes with the fantastic Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) and Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster). We’ll also see a return for Castiel’s vessel Jimmy Novak’s daughter Claire (Kathryn Newton) and Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen), and Crowley’s son Gavin MacLeod (Theo Devaney) again.
‘Supernatural’ will return to the CW on October 13.
