Noah Hathaway’s passion to bear arms

In the wake of tragedy Noah Hathaway weighs in on the controversial issue of gun control.

In the wake of the Orlando Pulse tragedy, which is in fact the worst mass shooting in America’s history, genre celebrity Noah Hathaway best known to many fans as the young hero Atreju in ‘The Never Ending Story‘ as well as Boxey in the original Battlestar Galactica, sent out a passionate social media post about his position on guns.

As we are now seeing, the issue of gun control is once again at the center of political and social controversy with many on both sides of the issue questioning the availability of guns and the constitutional right to bear arms. In his public post Hathaway writes a very passionate and sincere message in support of his right to own and carry a firearm, blaming not the gun, but rather the sometimes evil and potentially ignorant individual using the gun.

Regardless of how a reader of the actor’s post, a fan of his work or the family of a victim to senseless gun violence may feel on this issue, if all gun owners had the sense, ethics and perspective which Noah Hathaway brings to bear on the subject, perhaps we wouldn’t need to mourn so often in the wake of mass shootings like the one which hit so very close to my home as not only an American, but also as a resident of Orlando Florida and a staunch ally to the LGBTQ Community.

Here is Noah’s post and view on the subject:

I stand behind you in line at the store with a smile on my face…and a gun under my shirt and you are none the wiser, yet you are safer for having me next to you. I won’t shoot you. My gun won’t pull it’s own trigger. It is securely holstered with the trigger covered. It can’t just go off.

However, rest assured that if a lunatic walks into the grocery store and pulls out a rifle, I will draw my pistol and protect myself and my family and therefore protect you and your family. I may get shot before I can pull the trigger…but, I won’t die in a helpless blubbering heap on the floor begging for my life or my child’s life.

No, if I die it will be in a pile of spent shell casings. I won’t be that victim. I choose not to be. As for you, I don’t ask you to carry a gun. If you are not comfortable, then please don’t. But I would like to keep my right to choose to not be a helpless victim. There is evil in the world and if evil has a gun, I want one too…

Be smart don’t blame the guns, blame the people using them.”              –Noah Hathaway

While the view and stance taken by Noah Hathaway is a subjective one, which is of course open to interpretation by all reading it herein, it is in fact a position shared by myself Tye Bourdony. Like Mr. Hathaway, I will also stand up for my family and those around me by drawing my own pistol in self defence as well should a lunatic pull out a rifle and attempt to do harm to myself, my family or another in a cowardly public act of ignorant gun violence.

So Say We All!
