New CBS Star Trek series plot Clues

Two words and one actors qoute are pushing some to think that the new Star Trek All Access show may in fact be an Anthology series.

By this point Star Trek fans have seen the new and very brief Star Trek series trailer released by CBS which is set to soon begin production in Toronto Canada, with an anticipated release date of the show’s premiere episode sometime in January of 2017.

The upcoming and as of yet untitled series is being produced by CBS Television Studios with the very first premiere episode airing on the CBS Network and all first-run episodes that will follow will air exclusively on CBS All Access.

Now all of this is in fact old news by now, as are the rumors that the show will possibly take place some time after Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and possibly before The Next Generation.

Likewise, rumor also has it that the series is potentially going to be some form of an Anthology series which will somehow move through the Star Trek timeline from season to season. And here is where the new Star trek series trailer may perhaps be pointing toward confirmation to some degree of this Anthology idea as some of the only words visibly seen in the trailer used a ‘plural’ phrase, “New Crews“.

By the same token, Star Trek alumni actor Tony Todd has indicated that he was to some degree in talks to be a part of the new Star Trek series and in a recent MORTIS interview, the actor had this to say about the pending production, “It’s a year away. They’re not even going to get official cast until, probably, the fourth quarter of the year . . . I’ve never done a series regular — I’ve always avoided it because I like playing different characters — but this is one year that we’re looking at some stuff, so I’m sure that we’re going to be popping up and everybody’s going to move on something real soon

Now the first part of Todd’s statement is quite clear about any decisions on casting not being made for at least a year, “It’s a year away. They’re not even going to get official cast until, probably, the fourth quarter of the year . . .”
But the second part of the actor’s statement has a different tone following his thoughts on typically avoiding regular ongoing series work as he enjoys playing different roles where he says, “. . . I’ve always avoided it because I like playing different characters — but this is one year that we’re looking at some stuff . . .” now this statement could be read as if Todd is indicating that he is not too reluctant to take on a regular role in this case as it would only be for one year or for one season.
While readers and fans can make their own decision on how to read into Todd’s Statement, it would seem that if in fact a correct reading of his statement is that any commitment on his part would most likely be for only one year, then Todd’s statement along with the new trailer’s plural phrase, “New Crews“, might very well support the idea of an Anthology series.
If the new series being created by CBS is actually an Anthology series, then as the show moves through Star Trek history from one season to the next, it might in fact also have ‘New Crews’.
