Netflix secure rights to ‘Gotham’

The 16-episode series - which airs on Fox in the US and Channel 5 in the UK - will be available on all territories where Netflix operates, once the whole season has been shown on television in each respective country.

Netflix have secured the rights to stream episodes of the new Fox series ‘Gotham’ once the first season has finished its run on television.

According to Deadline, it’s the first time that a series has been acquired by a video on-demand subscription platform ahead of its televised premiere.

The 16-episode series – which airs on Fox in the US and Channel 5 in the UK – will be available on all territories where Netflix operates, once the whole season has been shown on television in each respective country.

With Fox’s run due to commence on September 22, season one will most likely  reach the streaming service by September next year and could coincide with season two.

Gotham centres on the early years of detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) on the police force, as he tries to stem the sea of corruption that is destroying his once prosperous city.

Gotham premiers on September 22 on Fox in the US. Channel 5 will air the show this autumn.
