Neil Gaiman’s ‘Hansel and Gretel’ Graphic Novel to get movie treatment

"I'm thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us."

Neil Gaiman’s comic book adaptation of the classic fairytale ‘Hansel and Gretel’ is to be made into a feature film.

The Hundred-Foot Journey‘s Juliet Blake will produce, according to Variety.

Gaiman said of the project: “I’m thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us.

“For me, retelling Hansel and Gretel was a way of telling an old tale in a way that made it immediate and true, and about us, now. It reminds us of how paper thin civilisation really is. It’s about hunger, and about families.”

Gaiman’s books ‘Coraline’ and ‘Stardust’ have previously been adapted into films.

2013 movie ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ presented a twist on the classic fairytale, starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as bounty hunters who assassinate witches.
