Live Action Akira Movie Halted

According to Jaume Collet-Serra there has been zero progress on the film since he can on board to direct.

Momentum on the long gestating ‘Akira’ movie, which is based on the popular Japanese comic book has halted yet again.

The movie, which is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra seems to be in the movie version of “No mans land.” better known as production hell.

According to Jaume Collet-Serra there has been zero progress on the film since he can on board to direct.

Collet-Serra also suggested that the question of if and when the movie would progress could only be answered by Warner Bros.

Attempts to adapt Katsuhiro Otomo’s comic – which was the basis for the classic anime film of the same name – have been shelved several times over the years. The first one I remember reading about was back in 2008, but that particular production was shut down in 2012.

As to whether or not Warner Bros are able to bring an ‘Akira’ movie to the big screen remains to be seen. I for one would love to see it. I had hours of fun playing the old ‘Akira’ video game in the 1990s on my old PC. So a chance to see that vision realized on the big screen could be fun. Then again it could completely suck as well.
