Jack Thorne who is best known for having done the stage play of ‘Harry Potter’ as well as the TV hit ‘Last Panthers’ is to write the television adaptation of Philip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’ novels.

Producing the project for BBC is former ‘Doctor Who’ Executive Producer Julie Gardner.

‘His Dark Materials’ chronicles the journey of 12-year-old Lyra Belacqua to uncover an evil plot involving stolen children and save a missing friend.

“It is such an honor and a privilege to be given this opportunity to delve into Philip Pullman’s world,” Jack Thorne said.

Pullman was quick to heap praise on Thorne and said, “I’ve greatly enjoyed talking to him and learning about his plans for bringing His Dark Materials to the screen,” Pullman went on to say.

“I’m certain he’ll do a superb job, and I look forward to seeing the whole project develop as he shapes the story.”

Jack Thorne has plenty of experience with the fantasy genre – having worked on the sold-out stage play ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’

‘His Dark Materials’ was previously adapted for the big screen as the Daniel Craig and Eva Green-starring fantasy epic ‘The Golden Compass’ in 2007.
