In Review: Timeless – Atomic City

After landing in 1962 Las Vegas, Flynn has the team on the run with the era's most infamous mistress.

Synopsis: After landing in 1962 Las Vegas, Flynn has the team on the run with the era’s most infamous mistress. During the restless, neon-lit-night, Rufus meets his old mentor Anthony Bruhl, whose motives may be darker than anyone suspected.

Review: This week sees the team land in Las Vegas in a time when it was known as Atomic City.

The story sees the team chasing after an Ingrid Pitt who as it eventually turns out is not a person, but more of a slang term for the core of a nuclear bomb.

At first the team believes that they are there to prevent an attempt on the life of John F. Kennedy, but it turns out that Flynn has other plans, which include blackmailing the worlds most notorious mistress Judith Campbell so she will get him the keys to where a nuclear device is located.

While in Vegas Rufus who makes a comment on how invisible Back people in service are in Vegas has a chance meeting with his mentor and inventor of the time machine Anthony Bruhl (Matt Frewer) and lears that he may not be as innocent as he first believed. Rufus refuses to believe and is convinced that Flynn has some leverage on Bruhl, which is forcing him to comply with his wishes.

Although the team manage to keep history as is in this episode. They ultimately fail to succeed in their mission, but not being one to rest easy Connor Mason (Patterson Joseph) asks Analyst Jiya if she can locate Flynn’s time machine in the present day.

This was a solid story, which will evidently continue next week.

I loved the setting of Vegas in the sixties and all the music and dress styles of the time.

It was also great to see that Wyatt has a more vulnerable side and seeing him try and do the old Back To The Future trick of sending a telegram to the future was a fun addition to the episode, but sadly does not work in this particular instance.

Meanwhile Lucy continues to struggle with her personal life, which has changed dramatically since their encounter with the Hindenburg. This for me is a weak point to the show and has been dragging on for three weeks now. Hopefully they can resolve this issue somehow and soon because its beginning to drag and get somewhat boring. Instead maybe look into how the lives of some of the other characters changed.
