In Review: The Strain: Mister Quinlan–Vampire Hunter #2

Now a champion in the ancient arenas of Rome, Mr. Quinlan finds himself up against the fiercest of all of the gladiators.

Synopsis: Now a champion in the ancient arenas of Rome, Mr. Quinlan finds himself up against the fiercest of all of the gladiators. But his chances of survival outside the arena are even worse, as the Master closes in on Mr. Quinlan after years of searching!

Review: The origin story of Mr. Quinlan continues and this issue sees him fighting as a gladiator in the arenas of Rome.

For a time all is well and Quinlan is loved by the blood thirsty mob. But when the emperor pits him against Rome’s champion and Quinlan bests him. The mob turns on him. Calls him a demon. Things have gone against the emperors plans and he has ordered that Quinlan’s victory be wiped from the records.

With his time as a Gladiator at an end. Quinlan is brought by a mysterious benefactor, but The Master attacks the Gladiators before the sale fully goes through.

This was another great issue, which delved a littler deeper into the backstory and also revealed that Quinlan is not exactly unique and that there have been others like him that have the white blood, but not the worms.

The artwork of the gladiators in battle is fantastic and very bloody as you’d imagine and suits the story perfectly.

With great writing and art work. This is a brilliant tie in to the series and gives us lots of insight into one of ‘The Strains’ most loved, but most mysterious characters.
