Synopsis: The shocking origin story of Robbie’s transition into Ghost Rider is revealed as the lives of Coulson and the team hang in the balance.
Review: Daisy brings Robbie’s brother to the plane in order to protect him from being potentially snatched and used as leverage by ghostly scientist Lucy Bauer. While on board the Shield Jet Robbie tells him brother about how he became the Ghost Rider.
Meanwhile Lucy with the willing help of Robbie’s Uncle Eli. They are looking to try and reverse what happened to Lucy, but it seems that Eli has other plans.
Back at Shield Director Mace has gone after Coulson and board the jet to initiate a search for Robbie and Daisy because they are both considered fugitives. Initially Mace’s search turns up a blank, but Mace is more smart than Coulson gave him credit for and figures out where Daisy and Robbie are hiding. Feeling confined Robbie begins his transition into Ghost Rider and goes for Mace. Only to be stopped by his younger brother who manages to get the Ghost Rider to back down.
With Mace seriously hurt from Ghost Rider’s attack. Shield go to the lab where Eli and Ghost Lucy are working. They recover the book, but not before Eli manages to succeed at his task of undergoing some sort of Dark Matter transformation.
This was a pretty strong episode, which had some nice called backs to the cancelled Agent Carter series. However I felt that the origin story for Robbie’s transition into Ghost Rider was fairly weak in that they could have made a little more of it, but I do like the connection to Robbie’s family and this Dark Book.
With Coulson seemingly out of action for the moment. It will be interesting to see what direction the next episode takes. Especially given the fact that Daisy went radio silent on the communications, which would indicate that she got sick of being confine to light duties and took off on her own again.
