Synopsis: When Atlantian troops assault Metropolis as revenge for the death of their Queen. The Justice League come to the aid of Arthur Curry and help install him as the rightful heir to the Atlantian Throne.

Review: Just out now on Amazon here in the UK. This latest offering from Warner Bros animation and DC Comics gives us an origin story for Aquaman via the Justice League.

When Prince Orm murders the Queen and blames her death on the surface people the search is on to find Arthur Curry the half son of the Queen, who is part human and part Atlantian. It is her hope and her dying wish that he can bridge the gulf between her people and those who live on the surface.

This is very much a coming of age story for Curry, who after having recently lost his father is lost and without a purpose, but when Mera comes to the surface to take him to his mother Arthur quickly finds his purpose and learns about his heritage while fighting against his wicked half brother Orm.

The animation and voice acting in this is top notch and having never read any Aquaman comics. This film has actually got me a little curious to learn more about the character and will no doubt have had that effect on other people as well. This reaction can only be good given that Aquaman will be a part of the ‘Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ feature film, which is expected to hit next year.

This animated film also plays with the relationship that Superman is having with Wonder Woman, but it also shows us Justice League, which is still at its humble beginnings. Hopefully we’ll see more Justice League films in the near future so we can continue to see these characters evolve. It be nice if they could hurry up and add Green Arrow to the line up though.

Justice League: Throne Of Atlantis is available to rent or buy now via Amazon Video and is also out on both Blu Ray and DVD and well worth having.

I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see what Jason Momoa brings to the role. I also hope that we get a live-action Aquaman series at some point. He’d be a perfect character to bridge the myth/folklore loving geek audience and the superhero geek audience. The initial CW pilot was solid, and they could really do something cool with Arthur, given their current line-up. Maybe they could test him out on that team mash-up anthology thing they have planned?
