Synopsis: On the run from Gordon and Bullock, Dwight tries to revive Jerome, in turn, activates his acolytes around Gotham City. Meanwhile, Selina’s mother’s intentions in Gotham are revealed, and the power play between Penguin and Nygma escalates as Barbara’s plans are set in motion.
Review: Once again we are treated to an episode, which continues to give us multiple plot threads. The most interesting one this week concerns the attempted resurrection of Jerome by Dwight. Which initially goes awry, but comes back to literally bite him on the butt later as Jerome makes a much anticipated return.
Its obvious that Jerome is basically ‘The Joker’ in his early years and am hoping that the shows format uses him sparingly. At least until such times as Bruce Wayne starts to make early forays into crime fighting.
Nygma’s plan for Penguin continues, but it seems that the plan has undergone some dramatic changes thanks to Barbara and Tabitha who intend to dethrone Penguin as Gotham’s main crime boss.
Meanwhile Selina’s mum continues to cause trouble until her plan to frisk Bruce Wayne of $200,000 comes to light, which is upsetting for Selina because both her mum and Bruce lied to her.
David Dastmalchian puts in a pretty strong performance as Dwight and the moment that he dons Jerome’s face like a face mask is both creepy and funny at the same time. Yeah. I’m a sick little puppy, but honestly. It was weird looking.
Of course things get freakier still when Jerome gets his face back and staples it in place.
Cameron Monaghan makes a triumphant return as Jerome and we can only hope that he is not over used in the weeks to come or killed off again. I’d rather have a season where we get to see a few new villains come into play and use the main ones as little as possible. Monaghan’s scenes with Morena Baccarin should be enough to remind us of what a real convincing Joker should be like. Fact is Monaghan’s performed in last series and this is way ahead of what we got from Jared Leto in ‘Suicide Squad’.
Another pretty strong episode for Gotham, but hope that we get to see some of the plot twists turned up a few more notches in the weeks to come.
