In Review: Big Finish: Doctor Who: Return To Telos

It was lovely hearing Frazer Hines do double duty in this timey-wimey story as both Jamie and the Second Doctor, as listeners were treated to an interlude from “Tomb of the Cybermen.”

Synopsis: The Doctor reveals to Leela that they’re heading for the planet Telos. And K9 has new masters…

On Telos, in the past, the Second Doctor and Jamie are exploring the ‘tomb of the Cybermen’.

Meanwhile, the Cyber-Controller and Cyber-Planner consolidate their plans. Spare parts from Krelos are being used to construct a mighty Cyber army. The Doctor must be captured.

Out of control, the TARDIS tumbles down a chasm and the Doctor and Leela find themselves caught up in full-scale planetary invasion.

Review: This season finale episode picked up where “The Fate of Krelos” left off. It was lovely hearing Frazer Hines do double duty in this timey-wimey story as both Jamie and the Second Doctor, as listeners were treated to an interlude from “Tomb of the Cybermen.” I’m just sorry the interlude wasn’t a wee bit longer. Also of note was Bernard Holley reprising his role of Peter Haydon for the occasion. Objectively, however, Nicholas Briggs structured the story exactly as he needed to, and I was glad to hear that I’d read the context clues from the previous episode properly. That was one pesky piece of tartan. I have to give special kudos to Nicholas Briggs for so eerily recapturing the  old school Cybermen. I hope he gets to voice them again for the current series and make Peter Capaldi a happy man.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the superb Tom Baker and Louise Jameson in this run of The Fourth Doctor Adventures. I’m looking forward to the next season when Lalla Ward rejoins the Tardis team.
