Synopsis: Who’s been following Marty and Professor Irving through 1972? What happened to the DeLorean? What is 1972 Doc’s secret? And what does it all mean for Jailbird Joey Baines? All these answers and more… just in time for a whole new set of mysteries!

Review: Having aided his Uncle Joey in robbing Doc Brown’s place in the last issue. Marty feels guilty that he got away and his Uncle took the fall for him, but Professor Irving insists that they must find the time machine and head back to 1986. The problem is Biff is in hot pursuit and after the money, which was supposedly in the cigar box that Joey took. All Marty has is a painting, which could well hold some answers to the mystery.

This issue goes are a rip-snorting pace and sees Irving get punched in the nose by Biff who gives them an ultimatum to get his money. But there is no money. But there is something, which could lead to the money.

The twist in this issue is something I didn’t see coming but feel that I perhaps should have given that Doc Brown as in the one we know from 1986 is an inventor.

The addition of Professor Irving to this story has really given things a fun twist. He’s much less confident than Doc and is not able to keep Marty in line like Doc can. The sequences in 1972 have been excellent fun. Especially when it came to Marty and Irving being ferried around by a Hippie as they tried to evade Biff. There’s a really funny sequence where the hippie talks about having seen The French connection, which carries throughout the chase to a really funny punchline.

John Barbar and Bob Gale really work well together and like all the previous issues. They manage to stay true to the humor and fun of the original movie series.

The artwork by Marcelo Ferreira has been solid throughout and has the feel of a warm-hearted Saturday Morning cartoon that would be must-watch television.

I’m really looking forward to the next issue to find out how this arc will conclude.
