Genre Icon Doug Jones To Play DC Comics Villain Deathbolt On Arrow

Jones be seen in the nineteenth episode of Season 3, entitled, “Broken Arrow.”

As if fans didn’t already have a variety pack of reasons to love the television D.C.U., IGN reports that genre icon Doug Jones will play Deathbolt, the first metahuman villain to be introduced on Arrow. Jones be seen in the nineteenth episode of Season 3, entitled, “Broken Arrow.”

In DC comics, Jake Simmons/Deathbolt, first introduced in All-Star Squadron #21 in 1983, was a villain with the power to manipulate electricity. In Arrow, Jake Simmons will be a metahuman with the ability to harness and weaponize plasma energy. Given that metahuman villains have been the exclusive domain of The Flash, I’m psyched to see how the master performer sets this new precedent on the flagship show.

Jones — whose numerous credits include Batman Returns and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (as the title character) — is perhaps best known for his work with Guillermo del Toro, including Pan’s Labyrinth, The Strain and playing Abe Sapien in both Hellboy films. The actor, who’s garnered much acclaim for his highly physical performances, often under makeup and prosthetics, will be seen later this year in his continuing role as an alien in Falling Skies’ fifth and final season.

Raissa Devereux became a life-long genre fan at the age of four when she first saw The Wizard of Oz at a screening at Arizona State University. Years later, she graduated from A.S.U. as an English major, History minor, Whovian, and Trekkie. Now a Florida transplant, she loves the opportunity Sci-Fi Pulse has given her to further explore space travel, time travel, masked heroes, gothic castles, and good yarns.
