Stargate Atlantis Set To Arrive On R1 DVD In June
20 May 2005

For many years it has been the Star Trek shows that have spawned successful spin offs. So it was only a matter of time before another Sci Fi TV show would follow in its tracks.
For many years Stargate SG – 1 has ruled the roost on both Showtime and the Sci Fi Channel respectively, the series has gone beyond everyone's expectations and is currently in production on its 9 th Television season, but running in tandem with SG – 1 is the new Series Stargate Atlantis which launched to a huge amount of fan fare last summer on the Sci Fi Channel and managed to garner some quite respectable ratings, and did well enough to guarantee a second season.
It would appear that MGM are hoping that lightning will strike twice for their spin off series from Stargate, because the new DVD of the pilot episode for Atlantis is set to get its region one launch on June 7 th . This DVD is a must have for fans of either series and features some never before seen mini featurettes and a commentary by director Martin Wood and the shows leading actor Joe Flanigan. The set also includes a behind the scenes look at the making of Season 2 which will see its premiere on the Sci Fi Channel this summer. Another extra feature is a sneak peek at the video game Stargate Alliance as well as some art work from the game.
To refresh your memories of how Stargate Atlantis spun off of SG – 1 below is a brief synopsis of the pilot episode.
Synopsis
