Darth Vader Now Officially Appearing In ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

Anthony Breznican said that, although Vader will show up in the movie, he won't be the primary threat to the Rebels.

For months now it has been asked time and again if Darth Vader will make an appearance in the ‘Star Wars’ prequel movie ‘Rogue One’. It has now been confirmed that the dark lord will make an appearance.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news on the cover of its latest issue, to be released later this week. In an appearance on Good Morning America to promote the issue, writer Anthony Breznican said that, although Vader will show up in the movie, he won’t be the primary threat to the Rebels.

“Darth Vader kind of looms large over the plot even when he’s not necessarily on screen because the new villain played by Ben Mendleson, Director Krennic, [is] trying to fulfill the wishes of the Emperor and he’s got kinda Vader looming in the background over his shoulder, making sure that he gets the job done,” Breznican said.

As fans already know. ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ charts the rebel mission to steal the plans for the Empires super weapon. The Death Star.

Quite what this means for Mandleson’s characters fate in the wider scheme of things as yet remains to be seen.

As we all know. In ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ it is Grand Moff Tarkin and Vader who loom large, which makes me wonder if Tarkin will make an appearance in the prequel film. Also given that we know the rebels will successfully steal the Death Star plans. Will Vader wind up being the executioner of Director Krennic.

It’s not known who will play Vader in the new film. David Prowse provided the presence for the villain in the original trilogy, with Gene Bryant under the mask for the character’s cameo in 2005’s ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’. James Earl Jones provided the voice for Vader in all four movies and continues to do so in the hit animated show ‘Star Wars: Rebels’.

‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ will be released Dec. 16.
