Royal Canadian Mint issues 50th Anniversary Star Trek coins

The Mint is proud to celebrate a cultural phenomenon that has carved a space in the hearts and minds of Canadians and fellow Star Trek fans all over Planet Earth.

The Royal Canadian Mint has announced their decision to issue a number of different coins memorializing the original Star Trek series in celebration and conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s dynamic vision of humanity’s future in the stars.

William Shatner who is himself Canadian-born, attended a special event hosted by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, where he unveiled A $10 color silver coin picturing Captain James Tiberius Kirk, licensed by CBS Consumer Products.

The Royal Canadian Mint President and CEO Sandra Hanington who was also present at the unveiling ceremony said, “For 50 years, Star Trek captured the imagination of countless fans by entertaining us while opening our eyes to the possibilities of science and the wonders of our vast universe.” The Mint CEO went on to say, “The Mint is proud to celebrate a cultural phenomenon that has carved a space in the hearts and minds of Canadians and fellow Star Trek fans all over Planet Earth.”
