On Sunday, July 12, 2015, the newly formed Central Pennsylvania branch of the Heroes Alliance was invited to Camp Dost’s opening night to help inspire, motivate and even learn a little something about the true meaning of being a Hero from the camp’s very special campers!
As this year’s camp theme was “Heroes”, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, the Black Widow and Hawkeye took a break from fighting super villains in order to came out and help support the young campers as well as to celebrate and kick off the start of a week of Heroic fun.
Camp Dost is a program of the Ronald McDonald House of Danville, PA and it is an especially magical place for young children coping with cancer. The camp provides a fun-filled, traditional, ‘normal’ camping experience for children with cancer, along with their siblings, with an emphasis on the camper’s childhood rather than their illness.
The campers enjoyed meeting and posing with the Heroes, and even got Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Black Widow out on the dance floor to learn some new dance moves. The Heroes also spent time thanking the counselors and the “Med Shed” staff for all they do for Camp Dost’s young Heroes!
Camp Dost is held yearly at Camp Victory in Millville, PA– “A Special Camp for Special Kids.” At Camp Victory, partner groups with specialized knowledge and training operate camps for children who live with chronic health disadvantages. The design and building of the various facilities incorporates their special needs and children receive the greatest possible care and support while having fun, making friends and doing their best to have a normal camp experience.
Special thanks to Judy Winslow and Joe Martin of Capture Life Photography for photos and support.
Well done Heroes and we look forward to more inspiring and Heroic adventures!!!
