Big Finish: Doctor Who: Time Tunnel

Katy Manning masterfully channelled the vocal inflections of the Third Doctor, Jo, The Brigadier, Yates, and Benton.

Synopsis: Doctor Who: Short Trips Monthly is a series of new short stories read by an original cast member.

Release #3 is a Third Doctor, Jo, Brigadier and UNIT story.

Reports are coming in to UNIT of trains emerging from a railway tunnel in Sussex, their passengers and drivers dead. The Doctor elects to drive a train through the tunnel himself, but when he emerges Jo sees to her horror that he is covered in ice. Something in the tunnel has driven him close to the point of death. What can it be?

Review: Although I would have loved a crossover, this story bore no relation to the classic American science fiction series of the same name. Instead, Big Finish treated me to a Third Doctor story that served as a perfect encapsulation of that era. Katy Manning masterfully channelled the vocal inflections of the Third Doctor, Jo, The Brigadier, Yates, and Benton. It was uncanny. It has to be some kind of kismet that she, William Russell, Peter Purves, and Frazer Hines all so perfectly capture their late costars in these audios. I heard the genuine love and respect.

I do have one very minor quibble. There were no extra interviews included. Spoiled as I am, I’ve grown used to extras.
