Last year we saw a few new characters enter HBO Vampire drama ‘True Blood,’ but one of the stand outs was Willa played by Amelia Rose Blaire.
I was lucky enough to recently catch up with Amelia and ask her a few questions about her acting background and the new season of ‘True Blood’
SFP: Reading the bio that I was sent about you. I notice that you studied a lot of theatre, but also studied under some pretty big names. One name that caught my eye was Clark Gregg. Would this be the same Clark Gregg that now heads up Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D?
Amelia Rose Blaire: Yes that is the same one and he was a really fun teacher to have and one of my favourites. He’s a funny guy and very grounded.
SFP: Was he teaching you at about the same time as he did the first Marvel movies?
Amelia Rose Blaire: Yes he was teaching us when he was shooting the Avengers. So it was like in between shooting Avengers, but before he did AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
We got to hear stories about what it was like to be on a set of that magnitude. It was very exciting and we all also got to go see the film.
SFP: Wow it must be really cool getting to hang with a teacher who is close to Captain America.
Amelia Rose Blaire: [Laughs] I know, I know. This kind of stuff doesn’t happen every day.
SFP: I notice from looking at your IMDB that before ‘True Blood’ you had a guest role on ‘Touch’. Did you get to work directly with Kiefer Sutherland on that show and if so did you learn anything from him?
Amelia Rose Blaire: No I didn’t. My character was a blogger.
So a lot of what I did was all on my own. I was just talking to a video camera the entire time, but on my last day we had this big group scene and he was there for that as well. So I got to meet him on that day. He was a gentleman. I remember he looked very dashing in the suit he was wearing. He was lovely.
SFP: In True Blood you made quite a splash last year as Willa who struck me as more than a Governors daughter acting out, but as someone who genuinely believed in her cause to a point where she allowed herself to be bitten by a vampire….
Amelia Rose Blaire: Yeah. It was kind of a whirlwind. I had been a fan of the show since season one.
So to actually get to be on the show and do a scene as iconic as a vampire turning with
Alexander Skarsgård was very surreal and very special. I really like Willa and I’m honored to get to play her.
SFP: Your character had a lot of dark stuff to deal with last year. I mean she wasn’t treated terribly well by the other vampires.
Amelia Rose Blaire: I know. It was definitely a very rough entrance for Willa getting kidnapped and manhandled very everyone and then being thrown into Vamp Camp. It was most definitely not a very warm welcome.
SFP: I don’t think we seen to much of it last year, but will probably see more this year in that you have to deal with Pam. Who is the only other Vampire to be sired by Eric. And of course now you have to deal with Eric Northman’s supposed death.
Amelia Rose Blaire: Yeah. Eric. Something has happened to him, but what has happened. We’ll find out soon enough.
Pam is definitely a force to be reckoned with and I think Willa will have fun dealing with that.
SFP: How do you think Willa is going to deal with the alleged death of Eric? I mean a lot has happened in a short time for her and you now also have to deal with the whole Hep V thing from all that tainted True Blood.
Amelia Rose Blaire: Yeah there have been a lot of changes in Bon Temps.
I think with it being the shows final season. Anything can happen and will most happen and it will likely be a wild ride into the series finale.
I don’t want to give too much away because I personally hate when people spoil it for me and I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises for anyone else.
- The new series of True Blood will premier on HBO on 22 June. Which is a week on Sunday.
