Alfre Woodard who has been in movies ranging from ‘Scrooged’ to ‘Star Trek: First Contact’ has scored herself a key role in the new Marvel series ‘Luke Cage’, which is to be released in the not to distant future on Netflix.
According to Deadline Woodard is finalising a deal to star opposite Mike Colter in ‘Luke Cage’, the third series in Marvel’s four-series package at Netflix, which kicked off earlier this year with ‘Daredevil’.
Woodard will play a lead character listed on the breakdown as Minetta, a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.
At present no one is giving to much away with regard to Woodard’s role, but speculation is that she will be playing a version of Marvel villain Black Mariah who is a nemesis of both Luke Cage and Iron Fist. In the comics Black Mariah is a professional criminal and drug dealer.
In Luke Cage, Mike Colter, who will be first introduced in the second Marvel series for Netflix, ‘A.K.A. Jessica Jones’, plays Cage, a wrongly accused man who, granted super strength by a sabotaged experiment, escapes prison to become a superhero for hire.
The series will be produced by Cheo Hodari Coker for Marvel and Netflix.
