Alexander Armstrong the new voice of ‘Danger Mouse’

The role of the great white mouse was originated in the 1980s by David Jason.

The voice casting for the key characters in the new reboot of ‘Danger Mouse’ is complete and comedian Alexander Armstrong has been chosen to voice the role of England’s greatest secret agent.

The role of the great white mouse was originated in the 1980s by David Jason.

The reboot for the animated series was announced back in June and the plan is to air the series on CBBC.

Armstrong will be joined by comedian and actor Kevin Eldon as Danger Mouse’s assistant Penfold, while Dave Lamb of Come Dine With Me fame will narrate the series.

Shauna MacDonald will round out the main cast in the role of a female Professor Squawkencluck – niece of the original Professor, while Morwenna Banks will also voice a variety of roles across the series.

Alexander Armstrong said: “As a lifelong fan of Danger Mouse I was ecstatic just to know that the show was coming back. To be actually involved with the reboot and to be taking DM out to a whole new generation is about as close to a dream job as you could wish for.”

On voicing Penfold, Kevin Eldon said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be the new voice of Danger Mouse’s trusty sidekick Penfold. It’s a role and not a mole, Penfold’s not a mole, he’s a hamster that I’m going to really enjoy. When I am recording the episodes, I’ll be making sure that at all times my eyebrows are at least three inches above my head.”

The original ‘Danger Mouse’ cartoon series ran for over ten years on ITV and featured the voices of David Jason (Danger Mouse and the narrator), Terry Scott (Penfold) and Edward Kelsey (Professor Von Squawkencluck).

This reboot is a join production between Freemantle Media and CBBC and is expected to premier sometime in 2015.
